Weakened City crash out

A bizarre sending off for debutant Matt Clarke capped a bewildering evening at a near-deserted Valley Parade.
Clarke’s performance had been one of the bright spots in a turgid Bantams performance.
But 18 minutes from time he was mystifyingly red-carded for the trip on Daniel McBreen which gave Scunthorpe a penalty.
Jim Goodwin converted to effectively finish the tie off – though a late goal by Joe Brown briefly sparked hopes of forcing an equaliser.

Robbie Foy had put Scunthorpe ahead after 50 minutes after a much-changed Bradford line-up struggled to find any cohesion.
Shorn of six regulars in Ricketts, Bower, Wetherall, Jermaine Johnson, Bridge-Wilkinson and Windass – arguably the first six names normally on the team-sheet – the Bantams were clearly keeping their powder dry for Saturday’s repeat performance, this time in the league.
