Scunthorpe could be fined by the Football League for fielding a reserve team against Bradford City in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy.

Colin Todd is reporting the Lincolnshire outfit for failing to stick to a new rule forcing sides to field at least six of their top 11 appearance-makers.

Bradford City also rested some senior players but most of the starting line-up were first team squad regulars.

Only two of Scunthorpe’s team had played in their previous league game.

Their manager Brian Laws has admitted he wanted to keep his cards close to his chest ahead of the clubs’ League One encounter on Saturday.

But Todd told the Telegraph & Argus: ‘Everybody knows the rules so what is the point of me doing it correctly and not them? I could have played a team of kids.’
