The 2015/16 season got underway for Bradford, as it did the remainder of League 1 at the weekend, with this starting in disappointing fashion in defeat at Swindon on Saturday….all of this after things had started so well for the Bantams before they ended up losing four-one at the County Ground.

It couldn’t really have been a better start for Bradford, or debutant Morris (4) following his arrival from Blackburn this summer, as he scored inside five-minutes on his first outing for the visitors.

A penalty award could have seen this doubled but Clarke saw his effort turned away by the Swindon ‘keeper, that’s when the game changed.

The Bantams held the lead until early in the second half when Byrne (52) drew Swindon level Byrne (61 & 68) then went onto complete a 16-minutes hat-trick to leave the Robins in control with Obika (70) ensuring the points with 20-minutes to play.

The other results this weekend were as follows:-

Burton 2-1 Scunthorpe
Chesterfield 3-1 Barnsley
Colchester 2-2 Blackpool
Coventry 2-0 Wigan
Crewe 0-0 Port Vale
Doncaster 1-1 Bury
Fleetwood 1-1 Southend
Gillingham 4-0 Sheff Utd
Rochdale 2-0 Peterborough
Shrewsbury 1-2 Millwall
Swindon 4-1 Bradford
Walsall 1-1 Oldham

In the opening round of fixtures you can’t really read too much, if anything into this, and things aren’t likely to settle down for several weeks if not months and only around the end of the year, at best, can you gage more from the table really, correct? It goes without saying the Bantams will be looking to be higher up this table than down it though!

Looking at these results the ones that stand out are Chesterfield’s and Gillingham’s, aside from Swindon’s win of course!

Barnsley are fancied by many to do well whereas the Spireites, having lost manager Paul Cook to Portsmouth and several key players, are being tipped by some to struggle but Chesterfield gained an impressive three-one win at the Proact Stadium.

Arguably the result of the weekend, certainly in League 1, has to be Justin Edinburgh’s Gillingham side thrashing one of the hot favourites for the title, let alone promotion, Sheffield United four-nil at Priestfield in Nigel Adkins’ first match in charge of the Blades.

The Bantams are back in action this midweek with the 1st round of the Capital One Cup taking place.

League 2 side York hosts Bradford with Parkinson likely to be keen to see his Bantams side bounce back, and certainly avoid a cup upset!
