Bradford City have today made their first signing of the summer.

Stuart McCall has snapped up 20-year-old Harrogate Town goalkeeper Jonathan McLaughlin, who has been training with the Bantams under the experienced eyes of Nigel Martyn.

It is understood McLaughlin will be the understudy to our new first-choice keeper down at the Coral Windows stadium next season

I think Bradford have been following McLaughlin’s progress for a while and with Ricketts,Saynor and Waite no longer on the playing staff it was obvious at least two new keepers would be required.

The major signing this summer in my opinion must be our new number one goalkeeper, someone with bags of experience and signed on a permanent deal i hope.

the likelihood is however that it’s going to be an up and coming youngster on a season long loan…

If he’s good enough to impress Nigel Martyn, he must be pretty good. We’ve had a pretty good record with getting good goalkeepers down the years (apart from Howarth who was a liability not knowing where his goalposts were!), I’m sure we’ll do ok again. Agree another Loach-type loan is most likely and very welcome if that’s the standard we get.
