Match Reports

Little too late…

You’d think after leaving Valley Parade yesterday, where did it all go wrong? The scoreline, and game itself seemed to be the opposite of our season, dissapointing. However perhaps it was dissapointing due to the expectations we had set our club personally, or maybe it’s due to the lackluster performances as of late from our Bantams, perhaps a bit of both.

The last time City won a game was 5-0 against Aldershot and since that thumping we havn’t captured three points in one game. Many fans entered the ground for a laugh, and to go onto the pitch at the end. But some of us knew that playoff hopes were still, marginally alive, if Dagenham lost.

Save our Stuart poster’s were everywhere, and hopefully the message got through to the Ginger Messiah, who had vowed to leave if we didn’t make the playoffs.

Peter Thorne got the first of the goals, tapping in from Dean Furman’s volley. Rotherham were not happy, claiming the goal scorer to be offside, but referee Andy Hall didn’t see it that way.

City’s top scorer for the season Thorne found the net again on 32 minutes, finishing off a great move by Nicky Law. Thorney could of got a hat trick, were it not for a great piece of skill by the Rotherham keeper Andy Warrington.

Nicky Law got the man of the match award in the end, but for me, Steve Jones. Jones was great all game, keen to impress. He did so and capped off a splendid performance with a goal, the third of the game, after running onto Joe Colbeck’s pass to slot it into the goal.

What followed was what we’ve come to expect, a pitch invasion. Despite warnings not too, thousands of fans charged past stewards and onto the pitch.

Next Season Ambitions
Obviously we’ll be hoping for the playoffs once more. But with all our loanees returning to their clubs after impressive seasons, will we be able too?

SOS
Stuart said he’d leave, but after all the support he got, he’d be mad to! One banner described it well. 6 managers in 8 years, do us justice and stay!

How embarrassing was that yesterday? Save our Stuart!!! What a crock of old ****.What is there to save? No one is sacking him,he WANTED to walk away,so why keep him? One good reason to let him keep his job please because after 30 years of watching the City,I cant think of one.

  • Wellers says:

you’re in the minority SLF. Were you the one person who wrote a negative letter to Stuart saying he should walk? Because the balance of opinion is that we persuade our club legend to give it another go. So, if it all goes wrong next year you can be smug and say ‘I told you so’ but the negativity has melted away in the face of 12,000 people united in wanting him to stay. BfB put it well, yesterday we had an atmosphere of inexorable victory, because from 1st minute to last the club’s supporters wanted to send the right message to Stuart.

and that is exactly why we are in the position we are in,fans who haven’t a clue.Your right I am in the minority, but the minority are right.

SLF may be in the minority but he is not on his own as my Dad & several of my mates is of the same opinion. I however go along with Wellers & think that if a playing legend like Stuart can’t be given more time to learn his trade at his beloved club then who do you want to do the job? Remember we didn’t nearly get relegated – we nearly got promoted. Very disappointing certainly given the wage budget compared to other clubs but did Stuart really bring any bad players in? I didn’t hear any complaints at the start of the season. Sometimes its hard to blend players together no matter how good they are or how much money you spend. I recall a certain Mr Ferguson who has rung Stuart & told not be so daft as to consider resigning nearly got sacked after doing nothing for 4 years when he took over at Man Utd.

its not about legends and all that stuff. its about keeping a manager for longer than 2 seasons. letting them build something, get something going. what would a new manager do now? who would it be? which backroom staff? its not about quick fixes. its about steady ships and progression. We are in a better position now than we have been for a while. the right end of the table. sacking stuart or wanting him sacked or wanting him to walk is not the way forward. I agree that macca should stop bleeting on about failure and that and stop making rash statements but i have to just translate that as passion. and that my friends is the way forward
