A Proud Day for Bantams!

After what was a much needed mid week victory. Bradford City headed into Valley Parade on Saturday realising that a win could be vital in the promotion push.

The Aldershot nightmare began right from the off. City stole the ball straight away, and Steve Jones’s lenghy run down the left wing was finised by Peter Thorne. The Bantams top scorer managing to get on the end of Jonah’s cross, to put the Bantams ahead after 2 minutes. A rare delight that we havn’t seen for a while at VP.

Aldershot never really looked like testing the kop goal, and sooner rather than later more misery was piled on, as Dean Furman (who i’m starting to love) managed to get a shot off, and it deflected into the net. This was just under the 20 minute mark, and City fans were rubbing their eyes at how well their team was doing. All smiles at half time, with a new section of Bantams cheering on their man, the Pakistani International Zesh Rehman, who was warming up on the pitch.

The second half started off the same as the first, with Bradford dominating most of the match. That dominance was proved with a 3rd goal just on 54minutes, an unchallenged Peter Thorne nodding in Nicky Law’s cross, sending his goal count to 14.

The Mexican waves were coming, and coming, and coming as the atmosphere was building up. Peter Thorne was subbed, and even the emergence of Barry Conlon couln’t spoil the mood. Infact, Big Baz made it better, guiding the ball into the net after another cross by Nicky Law.

Injury stricken Bradford boy Chris Brandon even managed to get a run around, even for 5 minutes, which was still a nice surprise.

Town’s misery was soon made worse, a Joe Colbeck ran down the wing and got a ball in, clipping Town defender Rhys Day on the leg, and rebounding into the net.

So it was 5-0 to the Bantams, the biggest win of the campaign. And as Rochdale suffered defeat, Bradford climb to 4th, one point behind an automatic promotion place. Which spells the question, with tuesday’s game at Rochdale, a big game that we’ll need to get a point at. Will City get an automatic promoton place? Or perhaps gain a playoff place?Chris Brandon (for M Boulding, 84)
Barry Conlon (for Thorne, 71)
In My Opinion, yesterday’s game was the best of the season for me, performance was great. And the atmosphere was electric. I’m considering renewing my ST in the TL Dallas stand.
Point for discussion: Do you want to go to wembley with the Bantams, or prefer to get an automatic promotion place.

Wonderful result and a great performance to go with it. Don’t think the scoreline was necessarily a fair reflection on Aldershot – they didn’t play too badly, we were just clinical!

What a great result and five goals to boot – back to back home wins was just what you needed at this stage of the season.

I thought they were lacking ideas & quality but we were indeed clinical for once. Although it was definitely the best home match to watch & the atmosphere the best since the opening home match I think we have played better in some matches but with less reward. A much needed boost for players & fans alike at the business end of the season!
