The Rumour Mill and Darren Moore

There are quite a lot of names flying around at the moment with regards the ten players Stuart McCall has spoken to since the end of the season.

One of those players, Garry Thompson, the much vaunted former Morecambe winger who had allegedly signed a pre-contract agreement with the Bantams, has signed for League One Scunthorpe. Whilst some has said many of our wage offers have been paltry it is believed that Thommo turned down more money from us in order to play at a higher level.

So that’s the end of that rumour.

Other players we know Stuart is interested in are the strikers Luke Beckett and Michael Boulding. To my mind we don’t need or want both. With Peter Thorne, Billy Topp, Barry Conlon and Luke Medley we have four (five including Omar) attacking options. Adding one of Beckett or Boulding would be beneficial but not two, surely.

We have had an offer accepted by Huddersfield so it’s a case of wait and see whether Beckett wants to join Brandon at Valley Parade. If, as Vital Huddersfield claim, Beckett is just about to sign a twelve month deal then expect our interest in Michael Boulding to cool.

We have a pretty good surplus of attacking options so it seems strange that we should be making money bids for players in that position after we released all three of our goalkeeping options. Stuart has signed youngster Jon McLaughlin from Harrogate Railway but must turn his attentions to that role. And to fill it the name of Rhys Evans has been bandied about after his loan spell last season. In the four games before his injury we picked up two points and kept one clean sheet (one of five all year) so I don’t know whether his was the most convincing performance between the sticks.

By far and away the most audacious rumour is that Darren Moore is returning to Bradford City. The former Derby skipper spent two years with the Bantams but left the club after our promotion to the Premiership to join FA Cup Holders, Portsmouth, who were then playing below us.

Bruno is great friends with both Wayne Jacobs and Stuart McCall and so a swansong in the lower leagues which he would absolutely boss might appeal to him. However, dropping from Premiership to League Two will necessitate a huge pay cut and a total transformation in the football being played.

Message board rumours claim that he has been looking for property in the area and that Bradford City might be on the verge of pulling off an almighty coup…

Certainly would be a coup but its going to take a mighty big friendship with Jakes & McCall to drop that much in wages!

Come on Bruno come home baby

Darren Moore isn’t getting any younger and he looked totally outclassed last season. I am sure he could still do a decent job in the 4th Division though.
