Match officials continue to keep a low profile, who’s staying out of the spotlight this afternoon?

David Webb is the man charged with keeping the peace on the Valley Parade turf.

Unfortunately he and the Valley Parade spotlight are well acquainted. Today’s game marks Webb’s 99th match as a referee and 51% of those have ended in victory for the home side.

The last time Webb was in charge at Valley Parade was last October when we ran out 5-0 winners over Oxford. A lot has changed in 12 months with last weekend’s point hard-won at the Kassam Stadium against a team who don’t look like conceding 5 very often.

But it was the first time Webb visited Valley Parade that leapt out at me. A 3-1 defeat to Bournemouth in October 2008. The defeat was fair, Bournemouth were better, but his performance that day has stuck in my mind. I really hope that we don’t have a performance like the one I wrote about three years ago!

Mind you, a lot of my complaints were directed at the linesman so as long as Anthony Backhouse and Billy Khatib give David Webb the support he needs perhaps everything will be fine and the fourth official, Mark Jones, won’t be needed to keep the peace.

well he certainly wasn’t great but that’s what we’ve come to expect in League Two but I’ve seen worse unfortunately. Seemed incapable of spotting handballs & a few dodgy decisions from both assistants as well.
