Rhodes confident of Silverware

Bradford City’s loyal chairman Julian Rhodes has already set high targets for the upcoming season – he wants back to back promotions from the under-performing Bantams. But now he says, he’s after some silver.

Rhodes isn’t mocking the club by setting demands for the F.A Cup or the League Cup, instead it’s the often forgotten the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy that is in his sights. A cup that sees lower league clubs have a chance at Silverware.

Last season pitted the Bantams against newly promoted rivals Doncaster Rovers and naturally, there were no upsets as City were sent packing with a £3000 fine, given for fielding a ‘weak’ team. City deny fielding a weakened team, stating they had no other alternative to the decision, blaming it on injury problems at the time.

Rhodes says that a JP trophy run is realistic, and that city are genuine contenders. He also points out that the Bantams have had tough opponents in the opening round.

So, Bradford have huge expectations for the season ahead, can they live up to them?

I think you are trying to put together a team that can make a serious promotion challenge this season. It will not be easy though with quite a few clubs investing on new players over the summer.

last time we won silverware that wasn’t promotion related (our last happy day at Wembley was in 1996) was before either World War…I think we may be a bit overdue?

Well overdue – hopefully we will have a squad to give us a chance. I like the look of the signings so far but will be happier when I see a decent keeper confirmed in Claret & Amber.
