McCall says No to Negotiations

The Bradford City manager has told his players that it’s take it or leave it in one of the clearest signs that Stuart McCall isn’t interested in players resting on their laurels at a club for which they don’t care.

Speaking to the Telegraph & Argus and following on the heels of Matt Clarke’s decision to take a heavily reduced deal the Ginger Messiah said ‘if people want to be here then great, we’re happy to have them, if not then we’ll just leave it’ and put the ball firmly in the court of his squad.

No longer does the make up of next year’s squad rest solely on who Stuart can throw money at to stay. Clearly believing in what he is building at the club the manager reckons that that is enough to motivate the players to stay and he reckons that ‘there might be a couple happening in the next couple of weeks, otherwise it will go to the last day and after the Wycombe game. But again it will be take it or leave it.’

With season ticket sales supposedly going slowly certain sections of the fans are urging the club to act quickly to bring in a big name signing or to do something that will excite them as though that’s all that’s necessary but Stuart is showing patience saying ‘things are going on behind the scenes and we’re obviously looking at other players as well and seeing what feedback we are getting.

But you cannot get a definitive answer because a lot of clubs don’t know what division they are going to be in yet. We’ve been making a few tentative enquiries to the clubs while a lot of agents have rung me.

But you can never say that it’s going great because you put things in place in football and sometimes they don’t happen. I had that last season when I thought two or three targets were tied up, only to go somewhere else at the last minute because of more money or a higher division.’

Stuart and Jakes have clearly worked hard through this season to pick out the areas that need to be improved and the players that might do that and there are rumours surrounding a couple of players, the substance of which we have yet to see. However, clearly what they need for us to do is to go out and back the side and make the Buy One Get One Free offer a reality.

Have you renewed your season ticket yet?

If not, what are you waiting for?

I hope Nix is on his list of people to offer contracts to – he’s been very committed and one of the few who has consistently show plenty of fight & desire. He may be a bit small but he certainly doesn’t lack tenacity in the tackle & is very skillful.

i think he’s got a bright future and will only get better. reading an article in the yorkshire post that said this is his first real season in football. He’s still only cutting his teeth and he’s done well (in the main)

  • will it ever happen says:

Looks like there could be a few on their way out at the end of the season?
