Man of the Match?

Five goals. A clean sheet. Three goalscorers. Who do you reckon deserves to be Man of the Match?

After a performance that dispelled all doubts following the disappointments of the previous ten days who do you think is worthy of the Man of the Match award?

A clean sheet suggests that it should be one of the defence? Rhys Evans didn’t have much to do but, his Donovan moment aside, was entirely reliable. Luke O’Brien looked good, Matt Clarke & Graeme Lee solid and Paul Arnison a welcome returnee. Although Zesh Rehman’s fanclub might disagree!

Five goals suggest it should be one of the strikers? Peter Thorne got two to make it three in four and 14 for the season. Michael Boulding worked hard and Barry Conlon needed 17 minutes on the pitch to work his magic.

Five goals and a clean sheet suggests a creative and solid midfield. Steve Jones had his best game in Claret & Amber, ably supporting both attack and defence and pitching in with an assist. Joe Colbeck had a quiet game but got into things as the match wore on, showing glimpses that he was getting back to fully firing. Unfortunately he and Arny were lacking telepathy, hopefully that pairing is given a solid run together.

But, and I doubt too many would disagree, it was the central pair of Nicky Law and Dean Furman that stood head and shoulders above the rest of the team on Saturday. Dean Furman played like a terrier in the middle of the park, grabbing his second goal in a week and getting the sponsor’s Man of the Match but for me the vote should go to Nicky Law who created goals, played some delightful cross field passes and was generally the man who looked to make things happen.

Man of the Match from the Macclesfield Town game was Dean Furman, taking his season total to 8 and the South African looks set to end up as the Vital Bradford Player of the Season unless something drastic happens.

Definitely another close run thing between Furman & Law for man of the match but Furman probably shades this one. Agree Arnie looked very good apart from one occasion when he got carried away with a couple of drag backs making the opposition look stupid then passed straight to their forward instead of Lee making himself look stupid! I think the 5 goals probably left you nearly as stunned as me because my old pal Cackhand Luke was not in fact ‘good’ but as garbage as ever. By getting people to actually watch the game I have now managed to recruit 5 or 6 new followers for my ‘Liability Luke’ campaign who also noticed how many times he misplaced passes & throw-ins and allowed men past him & crosses through on Saturday against a very average team – we need Hecky fit again for the run-in.
