A Point Gained?

For me, it was the first game of the season. So I was anxiously awaiting kick off, to check out the team for myself, and make realistic expectations. Leaving the game I was thinking the opposite of the title. Did we gain 1 point, or did we lose 2?

Both Bradford and Burton come into this game on joint points, sitting in 8th and 9th. Burton held big spending Notts County to a 1-1 draw last week, whilst City stetched they’re winning streak to four.

I was very impressed with the bright start the Bantams made on a beautiful day down at Valley Parade. City were very threatening and looked very sharp, they were rewarded with a goal thanks to a defensive error, which left an unguarded net for Gareth Evans, who took his chance.

Burton had been second best throughtout the first half, but showed that they wern’t going to simply lay down and die. Almost captalizing on a chance which saw some very brave defending from Lee Bullock, diving infront of the ball to send it out for a corner, crashing into the post in the process.

The second half spelled a different story. Bradford were still dangerous, but it was Burton who looked inspired. They looked sharper, and more willing to grab a goal, which they did.

Bradford failed to clear the ball, and it was defender Paul Boertien who tucked away his smartly placed shot to even the scores.

City pushed on for the remainder of the match, and will probably be kicking themselves after seeing various chances go begging in both halves.

1-1 it ended and my final verdict is that we lost two points, rather than gained 1. City could of been 3 nil up in the first half, which would have probably seen Burton heads go down. Burton took they’re chance, but City should of never allowed it to happen.
