It is confirmed, Bradford City are out of the Football League Trophy. I really don’t know if it is a good or a bad thing. It would have been nice to see McCall guide City to Wembley in the competition and on the way the club would have collected a decent amount of prize money, but on the other hand, hardly anyone was interested in the competition as attendance figures and media coverage shows.
Let’s not take anything away from Oldham
City and Athletic played on a level playing field, both fielding youngsters and first teamers and it was the visitors that took the initiative as early as the 3rd minute through ex Bolton youngster Temitope Ayoluwa Obadeyi making the score and result 0-1 to the Lancastrian club, his first of the season and first goal in 15 games. This now means that in 3 fixtures between our 2 clubs in this competition Oldham have made it a hat trick of wins over the Bantams, and all I can say is fair play to them.
I personally would have liked us to have progressed, but on the night, it wasn’t meant to be, and as is usually the case from any supporter of the losing side, you will hear many a Bantam turn their attention to the league and argue that is 1 less distraction.
I take my hat off to the Latics, they came to one of the away grounds of one of the highest placed (first teams) in the competition and took with them victory at full time and keep themselves in the mix. The score could have easily have been a bit more comfortable for Oldham, but there will be no tears shed in West Yorkshire tonight.
