City have only ever played Macclesfield five times in their history, having the better of the games with 3 wins, 1 draw and 1 defeat.

The first meeting between the sides came in the 1970/71 season at Valley Parade as the teams met in the First Round of the FA Cup; with City emerging victorious by three goals to two.

The teams weren`t to meet again for 31 years, as the teams were drawn together in the First Round of the League Cup in the 2001/02 season. City had just been relegated from the Premier League and travelled to Cheshire expecting to win comfortably. It took a 115th minute winner from Stuart McCall as the Silkmen earned a 1-1 draw in regular time. Former Terrier Lee Glover had put the Silkmen ahead but a 76th minute equaliser from Andy Tod ensured the game went further than the regular 90 minutes.

It was another 6 years before the teams were to meet again, on what turned out to be Stuart McCalls homecoming as manager. Macclesfield threatened to ruin the day though, as Francis Green put them ahead as early as the 9th minute. However, a Guylain Ndumbu-Nsungu equaliser following a saved Barry Conlon penalty ensured the City faithful didn`t go home totally empty handed. That game also marked the Macclesfield debut of current Bantam Gareth Evans who came on as a 77th minute sub.

City won the return fixture that season 1-0 thanks to a solitary goal from David Brown following some poor goalkeeping.

The biggest margin of victory came in the 2008/09 season at Moss Rose as City won 2-0 thanks to two goals from experienced marksman Peter Thorne. Thorne put City 2-0 up inside 14 minutes in a game which could have been 4 or 5.

Macclesfield recorded their only victory to date towards the end of last season, as they won 2-1 at Valley Parade. Former Bantam trainee Emile Sinclair opened the scoring in the 40th minute but then loanee Luke Oliver equalised just 7 minutes later. Experienced front man Ben Wright secured the 3 points for Macc as he wrapped up the scoring in the 60th minute as a lacklustre City struggled to mount any sort of a comeback.
