James Meredith isn’t giving up on his dream of going to the world cup finals as part of the Australian squad this summer.

Ahead of his injury back in January, which looked like it might have ended his season, the left-back was making good strides into making the Australian squad.

The Australian boss Ange Postecoglou had already shown that he is willing to ‘mix thing up’ with his selection and having come to previous watch Meredith, or at least hope to, with the Bantams defender knowing that his position is a problematic one for Australia he is not completely giving up hope.

He admits that ‘the ball is in their court’ though and it will be a long shot with him holding out hope of being involved in some pre-world cup friendlies.

Meredith told the Telegraph & Argus: ‘They are struggling for good left backs. Hopefully, now I’ve got myself fit, I can play a part at the end of the season and my agent will speak to them.

‘The ball is more in their court than mine. I can only do what I have to and come back the best I can but we’ll see how it goes. They don’t name the squad for a while and there are still a few more friendlies.’

Being an unused substitute in the weekend win over Crawley Town wouldn’t have helped his chances but you can never say never?
