Kyel Reid was sidelined for the second half of last season, which wasn’t only a blow for him but also for Bradford.

The Bantams missed the wingers quality during his injury enforced absence, due to a ruptured cruciate ligament sustained against Sheffield United, but also the 27-year-old was denied the chance to force home his calls for a new contract.

Had he not been injured you would have expected the winger to get a new deal but with him suffering a serious injury in January no risks can be taken but he hasn’t been released as such with Phil Parkinson confirming that he has been invited back for pre-season training.

Parkinson told the official website: ‘Reidy is a different case (to the other out-of-contract players). The most important thing is that he makes a full recovery and he`s doing well in his rehab`.

‘There`s not an immediate rush. He is going to come back pre-season to see how he is.

‘We just want to see how he responds to the last couple of months and then we will sit down with him.

‘He is a fit lad and a real athlete. You expect him to come back from this.’

It makes sense and if he proves his fitness Reid should earn himself a contract for next season shouldn’t he?
