James Meredith was expected to return to Bradford this season only as a possible opposition player, but somewhat surprisingly the Australian signed a new deal on Tuesday.

The left back, regularly ‘quoted’ this summer as looking at his options, was thought to have other offers from league 1 level as well as clubs in the championship looking at him but will be staying with the Bantams after signing a new one-year contract.

Alan Sheehan’s arrivals looked as though it was the deciding factor that Phil Parkinson had accepted the 26-year-old was leaving, so his search for competition in that role continued without plans for Meredith in mind.

Talks continued between all parties and he will be staying, which is great news for the club and a further boost going into the 2014/15 season isn’t it?
