Reports in the Belfast Telegraph today said that Stuart McCall would not be making the former Limerick gatekeeper his replacement for Rhys Evans.

Despite not conceding a goal in his three outings between the sticks the Bradford City manager was evidently not impressed, or felt we could do better for less money.

Having seen Mannus in the game against York he had impressed, with his communication in particular being an encouragement. However, his distribution had been patchy and concerns had been raised over his dealing with crosses.

Well thought of in Northern Ireland his career suggests a career built on footballing talent. Evidently he’s not what Stuart was looking for.

So, whilst the squad continues to take shape with a number of midfield names being put into the mix our goalkeeping quest returns to square 1. Maybe Stuart feels McLaughlin and Convey can make the step up?

Good luck finding a new club Alan, sorry things didn’t work out at Valley Parade.
