The new addition from Blackpool is looking forward to putting his injury problems behind him and play first-team football again, as he’s been used to with the likes of Rangers and MK Dons previously – also, before injury, Blackpool in fairness.

It didn’t happen until late on Monday but we got a deal done to bring the 29-year-old to Valley Parade to end the season on loan with us and boost our promotion push, which will also boost his first-team chances.

MacKenzie had previously been a regular in the Blackpool side, he was the captain, but an injury in pre-season set him back. He’s told the official website that a ‘misdiagnoses’ of this cost him another two-months and even though he’s been ‘training well for the last month or so’ he’s not managed to get back into the first-team picture at Bloomfield Road….

The Scottish international joins us under no illusions that he’ll be able to turn up and walk straight into the starting XI but does hope to be a part of the squad that heads to Vale Park to take on Port Vale at the weekend and has already been told, which he understands, he isn’t likely to play every game but he’ll certainly play a part.

It wasn’t until late in the day on Monday that he was aware of the move but was soon interested with Parkinson selling the club, with him knowing it is a ‘good place’ for him to be.

He said: ‘I didn’t hear anything really about this deal until around 5:30pm last (Monday) evening but I was interested straight away.

‘I spoke to the manager in the evening as the deal was getting done and he sold the club to me, not that he needed to sell it much.

The club is clearly doing well this year and receiving a lot of publicity recently with the cup run. I was sure this would be a good place for me to come.’

MacKenzie went onto add that he’s looking forward to, hopefully, helping us to promotion having gone close with MK Dons previously with him also excited by the prospect of the FA Cup challenge, which he can play a part in as he didn’t feature previously for Blackpool of course.
