The Bradford run in the Capital One Cup is over for another year after the first round defeat against York at Bootham Crescent on Tuesday.

After a two-two draw the game went into extra time, still a winner couldn’t be found so a penalty shootout was needed with Bradford, previous spot kick kings and League Cup Finalist a few years back, crashing out four-two to the League 2 side.

Routis (20) volleyed Bradford into a half time lead with York back level when Summerfield (49) converted from the penalty spot early in the second half.

The Bantams had a penalty of their own with 20-minutes to play but Sheehan missed this with Berrett’s (85) late freekick looking like it would be the winner until Hanson (90) struck in injury time to make it two-two.

With York ‘keeper Flinders saving from Routis and McMahon it was left to Carson to win it for the Minstermen.

Not all of the first round matches have actually been complete mind!

Doncaster hosts Leeds in the remaining first round tie on Sky Sports tonight, after which the second around draw will be made at around 10pm.

A fair few upsets weren’t there with a number of Championship sides falling at the first hurdle, as well as some League 1 sides who might have been expected to progress.

Shrewsbury, Oxford, Carlisle, Hartlepool, Notts County, Luton, Barnet, Northampton, Walsall, Port Vale, Bury, York (of course) and Portsmouth being the stand out results and the clubs to progress that could well be feared in the second round draw?

Arguably, our defeat aside, the pick of the bunch of the first round winners were League 2 sides Oxford, Notts County, Luton, Barnet and Portsmouth….

Following the outcome of the match on Tuesday we know Bradford won’t be in this anyway!

Not only do we want you looking, as you are now, we’re also looking for your thoughts and views on the League Cup result the Bantams had too, so do share some of those with your comments below.
