The Burnley winger is going to be around until February after Stuart McCall made his fourth ‘signing’ of the window.

After securing the services of Dean Furman and Nicky Law until season’s end and tying up Chris O’Grady for a month Stuart McCall has also extended his borrow of Steve Jones.

The Burnley winger has made 7 appearances for the Bantams since he joined at the end of November in which time Stuart McCall’s men have only won once. There have been two losses and four draws in that 7 game period which, although containing 4 clean sheets have seen us fail to score when needed.

Tasked with deputising for Joe Colbeck it’s difficult to say that Steve Jones has made a substantial impact. Despite making threatening runs both he and Omar Daley have suffered from an inability to actually create goal scoring opportunities (it is interesting that despite scoring 4 against Morecambe only the penalty owed something to City’s wide men).

Stuart McCall’s decision to sign him for another month makes sense as he allows Joe Colbeck and Chris Brandon time to recuperate and return to the squad fully fit rather than being rushed back too soon. However, the rumour circulating in today’s Daily Star that we are likely to make this signing full time after the loan expires is, I would hope, paper talk. Personally, I can’t wait for Joe to return as we have been severely lacking in creativity without him and Steve Jones is in my opinion a shadow of what is waiting in the wings.

Of course, there could be something more sinister in his loan extension and that is that neither Joe Colbeck or Chris Brandon are making the progress it was hoped. Both players were touted as returning in January and although recent newspaper articles have said they are in training the retention of Jonah sends out, in my mind, mixed signals.

Here’s hoping it’s all about creating strength in depth rather than having to cover injury!
