Andrew Davies has been confirmed as the new Bradford club captain.

Stephen Darby took over this role last season following Ricky Ravenhill’s departure for Northampton Town but with Darby now the captain on the field Phil Parkinson was looking for someone off it to help with some ‘off the field duties around the club.’

Parkinson feels that such a role is required with this working well previously for us, with the experienced Davies ideally suited for this with him now liaising with himself, his assistant Steve Parkin and of course captain Darby.

The boss told the official website: ‘It is nice to have more than one senior player to bounce things off.

‘Davo is one of our leaders and his presence in and around the dressing room is important.

‘We have used club captains before with Ricky Ravenhill helping Gary Jones until he left the club. It is something that works well.’

Davies is a good presence, and a definitely leader, so the 29-year-old was a prime candidate for a role that works well for us.

Another role that we’ll now need to fill is that of the Director of Operations/Chief Executive after David Baldwin departed to begin work with premier league outfit Burnley in a Chief Operating Officer role.

Compensation has been received for his loss but with family reasons playing a big part as much as Baldwin was sad to be moving on the life-long Bantams fan had to ‘think with his head and manage his heart.’
