Brentford 4-2 Bradford AET
FA Cup 2nd Round Replay

The taste of cup defeat has been felt by Bradford for the first time this season. Still going strong in the latter stages of the Johnstone’s Paint and Capital One Cup, following a reprieve, The Bantams were beaten in extra time by Brentford in the FA Cup second round replay on Tuesday night.

Brentford had the better of the opening half an hour or so but it was Kyel Reid (34) that opened the scoring for Bradford, however Brentford were awarded a penalty on the strike of half time. Marcello Trotta (45) made no mistake.

One-all is how it ended in 90-minutes, so extra time was needed.

Within minutes of the start of extra time Bradford regained the lead, and again looked on for another upset, when Alan Connell (94) converted from the spot against his former side.

Brentford had turned the game in their favour by the half way point of extra time though with two-goals in two-minutes from Trotta (102) and Clayton Donaldson (103). A minute into the second period of extra time Harry Forrester (106) wrapped up a 4-2 win for Brentford.

Many people might feel that “justice was done” with Brentford getting through in the end, they might be right? However, as disappointed as The Bantams will be to exit the FA Cup (and see another means of generating some big financial rewards pass them by) they still have two cup competitions to compete for and of course have league two promotion to battle for!
