There’s always room in a squad for a goalscorer, so could the arrival of a free scoring League Two striker in the New Year further boost the Bradford promotion hopes?

Stuart McCall turned to Carlisle’s Charlie Wyke last year and he continued scoring the goals he was for the Cumbrians in League Two when he came to Valley Parade, both last season and this term.

Kristian Dennis has bagged 23 goals in the past 18 months for a struggling Chesterfield side and this has brought him to the attention of Bradford, along with Burton and Charlton, among others.

According to HITC Sport his 13 goals this season for a Chesterfield side struggling in League Two, which makes him the second top goalscorer at that level, coupled with the 10 he managed during the Spireites’ relegation campaign last time round, have seen Championship and League One interest.

With a little over six months left on his deal at the Proact Stadium, Chesterfield are at risk of losing Dennis, 27, on a free transfer so could be left in a position where selling him could be needed. However, the reports also said he is ‘happy at the club working under Jack Lester’ so there’s no rush to offload him.

Chesterfield would also ‘be reluctant to lose Dennis as they battle to avoid relegation from League Two, but they are bracing themselves for interest in the striker in the New Year.’
