Bantams sign Reggae Boyz star

Jamaican international Jermaine Johnson has been revealed as Bradford City’s first close season signing.

The midfielder came on as a late substitute against England at Old Trafford on Saturday.

The 25-year-old Johnson arrives on a year-long loan from his Jamaican club Tivoli Gardens.

But he previously had spells with Bolton Wanderers and Oldham Athletic.

Johnson told the Telegraph & Argus: ‘I learned a lot from being here before and I want to show that. My best position is to go forward with the ball and score goals but I’ve learned to track back defending and to keep my cool.

‘It was always my aim to get a second chance in England and it’s paid off now. As soon as my agent told me that Bradford were interested I was very excited.

‘The contract is good for everyone because I have to do my best and hopefully I can help the team to reach the play-offs at least.’

Johnson made an impressive Premiership debut for Bolton against Arsenal at Highbury in 2001.

But after moving to Boundary Park, he was released at the end of the 2004/05 season.
