We all have our favourite past players and managers and sometimes feel we have let players go at the wrong or right time. So let’s have a look at some of the ex Bantams this past weekend. With this the first Around the grounds with the exes this season, I will report on a few more players than usual which will help some fans follow some of their favourite ex City stars.

Phil Parkinson along with Reece Burke, Josh Cullen, Filipe Morais and unused sub Aaron Wilbraham have had a horrid start to the season, a 4-0 loss away to highly fancied Hull have condemned the Trotters to bottom spot for the end of the first month of the new season leaving Bolton with 2 points from a possible 15.

Nathan Clarke hasn’t been fairing much better in League 2 with a 2-3 home loss to 8th placed Wycombe leaving Grimsby in 22nd, staying out of the bottom 2 on goal difference. Grimsby haven’t won since their opening day win, a 1-3 win over Chesterfield where Clarke opened the scoring.

Devante Cole has now scored 4 goals in his last 3 games and is attracting attention from Sheffield United. Although Fleetwood lost 3-1 away to Bristol Rovers, Cole’s form at the moment is catching a few eyes. Jordy Hiwula-Mayifuila failed to score for Fleetwood and add to his solitary league cup goal this season. Fleetwood are comfortable in 5th in League 1.

Newport Manager Michael Flynn overcame Chesterfield at home 4-1 moving up to 2nd in the table, only 2 points behind Exeter. Chris O’Grady opened the scoring making it 0-1 to the Spireites before a 2nd half 4 goal flurry from the Exiles. Also ex City player, Lee Sinnot’s son, Jordan Sinnot was subbed for the away team on 75 minutes.

James Meredith is finally living his dream, playing in the Championship, what has been a tough start, Meredith helped earn Millwall’s first win of the season, a resounding 4-0 win over Norwich lifting them out of the bottom 2. Norwich was one of the teams linked to the Australian left back, back in the January transfer window. 17th in the Championship is their reward.

Billy Knott finished off the scoring for Lincoln at they won 4-1 at home to 10 man Carlisle. Knott has now scored twice in 4 games this season. Gary Liddle was subbed 2 minutes after Carlisle went a man down at which stage his team were already 3-0 down following the resulting penalty. Both sitting pretty in the middle of League 2, 13th Lincoln and 11th Carlisle.

Fan favourite Rory McArdle has had a good start to life at the Iron with a strong 0-4 win away to 10 man Plymouth. The game also featured last season’s wonder player Josh Morris who has now scored twice in 4 league One games this season as he struck the net on 90 minutes. Scunthorpe sit in 6th.

Simon Ainge scored a hat trick for Harrogate registering a 3-0 win over Tamworth. Harrogate are sitting pretty at the top of the National League North after 6 games due to a better goal difference. Did Bradford City miss out on a trick playing Ainge as a defender?

Billy Clarke helped Charlton Athletic to a 0-2 win away to Rotherham lifting Athletic to 4th in the table at this early stage. Jamie Proctor found himself on the losing side failing to find the net at his 4th attempt this season in the league with United slipping down to 19th in League 1.

Louis Moult has now scored 4 goals this season in all competitions scoring the winner as Motherwell beat Hearts 2-1. 18 goals last season, same the season before, 16 season before that, 17 before that, can Moult become a 20+ goal scorer this season? Motherwell find themselves in 6th in the SPL after 4 games.

Scott Loach failed to keep a clean sheet for Hartlepool at home as AFC Fylde took the spoils in a 0-2 win. Hartlepool sit 2 points from safety in 23rd in the Conference.

Gareth Evans saw red on 89 minutes as Portsmouth ground out a 1-1 draw away to Wigan. Lee Evans played the full 90 minutes for Wigan as both teams were reduced to 10 men. Wigan sit in 2nd whilst Pompey sit in 14th.

Paul Anderson and Will Atkinson helped Mansfield to a 2-0 lead over Luton but threw it away conceding 2 late goals ending 2-2. Alan Sheehan played the full 90 minutes for Luton. Luton sit in 5th in League 2 and Mansfield 14th.

Jon Stead opened his account this season with a 33rd minute penalty as 10 man Notts Co. drew 2-2 at home to Accrington. Both teams were reduced to 10 men with Notts Co now holding 7th in League 2.

Mark Bower had a slow start as Bradford Park Avenue manager this season, but he has guided them to a 1-4 away win over Telford which has now lifted Avenue up to 12th in the National League North.

Zavon Hines came off the bench on 53 minutes as Maidstone were a goal down away to top placed Sutton who have now dropped to 2nd. Maidstone went on to win 1-3 lifting themselves to 14th in the Conference.

Steve Davies is finding life at Rochdale tough this season, grinding out a 0-0 draw home to Bury. The result leaves the Dale in 22nd and Bury in 17th. Greg Leigh played the full 90 for Bury.

Raffaele De Vita came on as a 79th minute sub as Livingston beat Morton away 0-1. With their first win in the league, Livingston now climb to 6th in the Scottish Championship.

Mark Yeates helped Eastleigh to a goalless draw away to Leyton Orient in the Conference maintaining their top 10 status in the league.

Lee Holmes helped Exeter beat 10 man Cheltenham away 3-4 now taking top spot in League 2.

Kyel Reid opened the scoring on 4 minutes for Colchester helping the Us to a comprehensive 5-1 win to Forest Green lifting them to 16th in League 2.

Chris Dagnall made it 0-1 for Crewe away to Port Vale pushing them up to 4th in League 2.

Francois Zoko and Marc McNulty squared off as Zoko’s Yeovil beat Coventry 2-0 with both ex loan strikers failing to find the net. The teams occupy 12th and 10th respectively in League 2.
