With the first proper FA Cup weekend of the season, some ex Bantams would have reminisced of their time at Valley Parade and looking at their time under Phil Parkinson for inspiration for themselves and new team mates. I will also take a look at Friday’s games in the opening round of the FA Cup.

Blair Turgott helped cause a bit of a shock as Conference side Boreham Wood took on League 1’s Blackpool at home in the FA Cup. Turgott’s leveller on 68 minutes helped the none league side to a 2-1 win over their more illustrious opponents. Turgott is on loan from Stevenage and has now scored twice this season.

Adam Reach opened the scoring in the first minute as Sheffield Wednesday won 1-2 away at Aston Villa making it Reach’s 3rd consecutive game he has found himself on the score sheet. The vital 3 points has Wednesday just 2 points off the play offs in 11th in the Championship.

Kevin Ellison put Morecambe 1-0 at home to Hartlepool in the FA Cup just on 4 minutes with his 5 goal of the season. Pools keeper Scott Loach got himself onto the score sheet, an own goal making the result 3-0. Garry Thompson was subbed for the home team on 87 minutes.

Liam Moore only took 9 minutes to start the scoring in an entertaining 2-4 win on the road away at Derby Co. The goal is Moore’s 2nd of the season and puts the Royals in 18th in the Championship, 6 points above the drop zone.

Jon Stead help settle nerves for Notts Co after his team went 0-2 down at home to Bristol Rovers in the FA Cup. Stead put County in the lead in the 2nd half with his 4th goal of 2017/18 with the final score 4-2.

Mark Bower managed a bit of a shock as Bradford Park Avenue won comprehensively 4-1 at home to high flying Blyth Spartans in the National League North. The impressive 3 points has Avenue in 10th and 2 points off the play offs.

Louis Moult netted his 12th goal this season as Motherwell lost 3-2 away to Ross Co. in the Scottish Premier League. Defenders Carl McHugh for the away team and Andrew Davies for the home team featured. Ross Co are 8th and Motherwell 5th.

Zavon Hines put none league Maidstone 0-3 up away to League 2’s Cheltenham Town with his 7th goal thus far this season. The final result 2-4 in an entertaining match for the ex Bantam.

Phil Parkinson has now managed Bolton Wanderers on a bit of a mini unbeaten run of 5 games, their latest a 2-1 victory of Norwich City. At the time of writing Bolton have lifted themselves up from 2nd bottom and now 2 points from safety in the Championship. Wanderers patience with Parkinson is at the moment paying off and will do well sticking with him.

Lee Evans scored the winner for Wigan Athletic at home to Crawley Town with his 3rd of the season. Athletic went a goal down on 20 minutes equalising 9 minutes later. Evans struck on 71 minutes progressing to the 2nd round of the FA Cup.

Steven Schumacher brought the score level for Southport at home to bottom of the table North Ferriby United just before the half time whistle in the National League North. Both teams went on to score in the 2nd half resulting in a 2-2 draw. Southport are 16th in the table and still only 5 points off the relegation zone, but surprisingly 5 points off the play offs.
